Getting Griff MOT'd next week at a local East Anglian dealer, I am also getting the speedo repaired, the trip has stopped working. What has upset me is the fact that it'll take 4 weeks and that the dash could be broken when the speedo is removed. Help please.

Do it yourself?
That way you can take sufficient care to ensure the dash veneer does not crack.
But if it takes four weeks to refurb the speedo, it takes four weeks.

Corky have you tried hitting the reset button on the trip while traveling at around 60 or 70 mph ?

Assuming its the usual stuck gremiln (often on x0,000 miles rollover) you can do it yourself. I did it myself & I'm a mechanical nonce. Took a few boring, uncomfortable hours, but was free & no 4 week gap!
Remove dash as in the bible, take speedo out, carefully ease the ally surround off (I used the small end of a spoon) to remove the front screen, then the easy bit.. the fix.. I just tapped the numbers at bit & the little devils rolled over to next mile

Thank you all for your comments, tried the pushing buttons approach at 70mph this morning to no avail, I don't think I'll try it on the way home as I think there may be a bit of snow in Suffolk this afternoon which will make the drive home interesting . I am going to do the DIY route this weekend.

You are aware, I hope, that there are different manufacturers of instruments fitted to different model years, and each has an associated service centre (not sure about the very early ones)

I advised you (pjac67) to try ETB, based on the fact your instruments were made by them. I would always send instruments to the original manufacturer & if they are Caerbont (CAI) these are the same as Speedy / Greengauges ... Just seems common sense to me.

Fair point Dave. Although in my case both offered to do the work. Would always advocate speaking to the company at lenght re. what the problem is and if they are likely to fix it etc..
