In love with my car. Again !
Discussion
I can't find a smiley big enough.
My Griffith has been my pride and joy since the day I got it, 4 years ago. The only thing that bugged me was an intermitant misfire which I just couldn't cure.
I posted a few threads in the hope of getting some pointers, one of which was this thread back in 2005. www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=201032&f=9&h=0&hw=m%2Em%2Em%2Em+
Over the years, I'd spent plenty of money systematically trying different things in the hope that it would cure the most irritating thing in the world.
During the last few months, myself, cln1, Dave Ronson (ex-factory) and Ian @ Torque came to the conclusion that it had to be electrical, not mechanical. Everything pointed to this. I was going to disconnect the immobiliser but instead decided that a closer inspection of the wiring in the footwell was order of the day..
And there it was, one of the relays on the alarm/immob/fuel pump looms had a slight rattle and for want of a better word, seemed pretty well aged. The Bosch relay was hard to replace and in the end, I settled for an equivalent Lucas relay from a boarded up shop in the backstreets of Moss Side. (G.E Middleton). This was picked up on Friday.
Saturday morning saw the careful removal of the suspected trouble maker and the new, tight £6 relay was installed. Six bloody pounds !
Two hours of driving was split over Saturday and Sunday and low and behold, NOTHING. Not a stutter, not a misfire, not a cut out. NOTHING.
For the last 6 months, these gremlins would appear within the first 20 minutes of every trip.
There is a God, a TVR God, it just took him 4 years to show up, thats all.
I feel released, I want to take the Griffith everywhere. In honesty, the problem has restricted my enjoyment as I limited motorway driving to reduce the risk of third lane cut outs. (Not nice when they happened!)
I really hope this post isn't too premature but I'm confident we're sorted.
I feel like I've just had a new TVR given to me.
Awesome.

Awesome.

Superb, and happy for a fellow Griff driver.
Nothing like a sweet running TVR - over the last month I replaced plug leads, fitted shiny new heats shields, touched up the one or two stone chips, solved an apparent air lock.
Over the weekend gave the Griff a special clean inside out and engine bay - did 200 miles with a smile on my face. Awesome cars, they really are.
