Ice sensor in early griff?

Whilst fitting my 7" headlamps, I have noticed a clear "switch "unit attached to the inner wing within the headlamp hole.
It is about 40 x 15 x 15 mm, and look to have what must be a bi-metal strip between the contacts.
Looking in the handbook there is no mention of an ice indicator, there is an "I" on the indicator strip ,but this is allegedly for the inertia switch ????

Any thoughts?

The ice detector is a tri-colour LED on the heater console on mine. The I is definitely for the intertia switch.

No idea what your random box is.

The inertia switch is behind the glove box on mine and others to my knowledge, and is a 'switch' ... Maybe another sensor for it, but I think the actual switch is behind the glove box as well, as I have knock it on before now ...

The ice detector is a tri colour LED, but where it takes it's reading from I have no idea - it is completely useless any how.

I reckon you may have hit upon it's sensor unit, the wiring diagram should explain, and it wuold a logical place to put it ...

Looking at it now , I arent sure whether it could be ice related, there just seems to be one contact strip inside, nothing that would give a progressive change to illuminate a tri led.

Amazing what you can suck up from the road aint it? Else I think you may have found the earliest example of the 100A alt fuse :-)

I didnt have Cold sensor or the led (not wanting to confuse ice with ICE) but found the sensor wire taped to the alarm loom (headlight thru to dash / door connector block) My early 93 loom has more bits with Griff labels than Chim labels.

The philips head screw you can see in the middle, adjusts the contact strip position.

Its beginning to bug me now, WHAT IS IT?

Don't recognise that. Was it wired in, if so what happens when you open/close the contacts? Does it open or close with heat and what temperature does it operate at?

Well I shorted the spade terminals on the wires out and didnt see anything happen.
Cant tell yet whether it is cold affected.....

It's a satellite tracking device which alerts the authorities everytime you break the speed limit.
