Caliper seal kit
Discussion
I had this issue a couple of weeks back although mine is a pre cat running std calipers.
In the end it worked out the same to just buy a brand new caliper. My garage were able to get a brand new Ford one for £45 including the dreaded!!
If you're doing the job yourself though it'll prob still be cheaper to re-con yourself. In my case the seals were almost gone but the end of the piston was pitted so a replacement was a better option....

When I changed my pads and discs on 3rd of July last year see blog clicky I had to change one of my calipers as the seal had gone and the piston looked scored cost me £31 to exchange and I am sure it was a sierra caliper.the receipt doesnt say what it was.I have a 96 too.
My Proven Product's(red stuff pads and discs) reciept does though.
Front - Disc,Turbo Groove disc SIERRA , redstuff pads
Rear - Disc,T Grove Rear Cosworth 4x4 , Redstuff-Sierra cos rear
Theres also some good info in The Bible. I would "hope" yours wouldbe teh same as mine but hey its a TVR

One set of discs is much the same as another and there's no point spending more than you have to, but pads are a different story and personally I wouldn't recommend just using any old pads on a TVR.
Very true, and i have never seen a replacement pad out perform a genuine pad,im not talking performance pads, just run of the mill standard replacements, manafacturers work closely with the pad supplier developing the best compromise when developing said car, thats not something you often get with aftermarket reguardless of what the salesman tells you.

I've been told that brand new cars from a certain manufacturer roll out of the factory with pads that are far superior to the manufacturer supplied replacements, even though the replacements come from the same factory with the same part number and are nominally identical. In effect there are two specs hidden behind the same part number. I don't know if this holds true for all manufacturers, but I've been lead to believe that more than one manufacturer do it.

Website also gives all dimensions which is useful
I went there to buy new seals, and to be honest it was only a few quid more for a complete refubed caliper all painted and nice and shiny.
I can't remember the exact price but give or take a seal kit was about £30 (pair), new calipers were about £70 (pair), but there was a £20 refund (pair) for the old units,
So the new calipers worked out at around a £10 er a piece, but you also save all the hassel of stripping cleaning and fitting the new seals.
Just bolt on the new caliper.

Good info! I have bought a pair of calipers off the classifieds to recon but I think I might as well use them to exchange with these guys.

Right well I have ordered two recon calipers from Brakes International, my calipers seem to be the Escort MK4 RS Turbo type, although thats by going off the pictures, very helpfull people, said they will refund if they are no right so fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Yep that sounds right. I'm sure mine were off an RS Turbo.
If it's the same as mine you won't have any problems, just fit and forget, and they should be all nice and shiney.
How much?? £
£36 + Vat, as you pointed out, made no sense to recon them myself. Wonder at what year they used the MK5 RS2000 units? My car is a 96, same calipers on my 97 Chim 500 as well.
Thats 36 + vat each, there is a 20 + Vat surcharge each caliper refundable on return of the old ones.
