Best place to get a steering rack recond'

Need to get my rack reconditioned, wheres the best place and what should I be paying?

Me too. Mine has play in it.
Is the manual rack something special or does it originate from another car?. Are the trackrods and Knuckles replacacable like on an E30 BMW?

Absolutely, you can upgrade them with the superior Ford Sierra parts in just the same way.

Do you mean my Griff has a Sierra rack or just that the Sierra track rods fit?

hi just had new rack for mine/power steering car;almost certain tvrs own rack..think early cars with out ps where siera units same as old s series cars..got mine from dom at tvr power ..more than pleased with it..as good as new..not sure of unit price had it fitted by independent ;so had no individual pricing for rack.at a guess 300pound about right..

Just had mine done ... £152 all in.

Completely rebuilt, and they will send it away for machining if it requires it for the same price.

Speak to Danny, nice guy, they do most of the racks for the dealers around London ...

Not so great if you're not near Greenwichor around London, it was a way for me, but worth it.

Bearing in mind that's removing it yourself etc ... Just for clarity.

They will definitely need the pipework (2 of them) that are the solid copper ones attached to the rack, they are TVR specific and they can not test the rack without them ...

Getting it out is a bugger, and in the end I took the pinion gear out of the rack to slide it out through the chassis, but I think the only way to get it now back re-constructed is to remove the 'Y' piece ....

mines a maual rack, I will be removing it with the engine out and all the front wishbones and coil overs removed so should be very easy.

Hi, sucess will depend on what is wrong with the rack, mine had wear on the main rack bar, so only new rack bar can fix it. If it is only ball ends, no probs. Also depends on whether mk1 or mk2, mk1 are on early cars (pre 93??), and have TVR embossed in large letters, these are more difficult to get spares for. I got a second hand late rack for £150, now fine.
