k&n filter fitting probs

got me front end stripped, have cleaned the airbox and bodywork and my new k&n fits snugly, but when i clamp down the filter housing the k&n is still loose.i.e i can rattle it from underneath-not much,but enough to stop it being an airtight seal.the old air filter was siliconed to the housing, and a bastard to remove! i dont want to silicon the k&n as it will make it impossible to wash ocasionally. the only thing i can think of is the stuff ductworkers use-like a foam strip with and ashesive edge? anybody had this problem,or can help?

sounds strange, I`m sure that when I fitted mine the filter had a lip or flange around the outer edge that was nipped down by the plastic body when tightening up the 2 fixing bolts, I am getting on a bit so my memory may be going on me, some one is bound to be along shortly with an obvious explanation!

yeah the filter does have a rubber flange around the outside clive,but id say its about 2mm to small(in places)

They are normally ok but depends on the flange of the airbox, best solution is to use some self adhesive sponge foam strip, better than silicone and less messy,
