Fuel Pump - buzzzzzzzz -

Curious issue here folks.

Key ignition on - I get the reassuring 2 second buzz from the pump before we explode into life. No problems.

HOWEVER..

After running the car for a while, periodically the pump starts to get audibly louder and starts playing tunes. This can be accompanied by a 'squelching' type sound, as if its electronically squeezing. ( ? )

Could this be the pump on its way out ?

Out of curiosity, how much is a new fuel pump and where would you shop for one ?

Personally, I'd get a Bosch 044 motorsport pump from somewhere like [url]http://shop.vems.hu/catalog/index.php[/url], but I have a very non-standard fuel system (no standard parts left on it now!!)

Because of this, I do have a standard pump in the garage that I don't need.

It's possible, but it's also possible it's cavitation caused by a restriction between the tank and the pump. If you get the pump replaced, have them check the fuel strainer while they're at it.

Right then - Accompanying the fuel pump eraticness, there can sometimes be heard a knocking sound from the area above the fuel tank. Does this tie in?

Does this still happen if you leave the fuel cap /slightly/ open? Do you get an in-rush of air when you undo the fuel filler cap?
