scratchchin Can anybody shead any light on this?

Jumped in The griff this morning, started as normal, reversed out of garage and heard this awful chattering noise behind the dash. Immediately switched off, restarted, all quiet, as soon as I pull away , racket starts again. Sounds like a relay switching very quickly but not entirely sure.
Thanks in advance for any help on this, cheers, Adrian.

Could it be coming from the passenger footwell - and be one of the air/ heating servos jumping about?

The only relays behind the dash are for the indicators/hazards and the door locks (open/close detection). Could it be that one of the doors wasn't fully shut? Otherwise I suspect as previously suggested that the noise was coming from elsewhere.

I had this when I first bought my Griff. It was as Griffter says and was sorted by adjusting the door closes. Only happened between 0 - 5 mph.
Try pushing on each door when it happens. It made the noise stop when I did this!

thumbup Thanks for your input fellas, noise definitely coming from behind the middle of the dash. Last night, I tried it again hoping that it has gone away, but sure enough its still there, but what I did`nt notice initially was that the interior light was going on and off rapidly with the noise. Could this be associated with the central locking or door switches? What is the method of determining which component is at fault and their location. Again, any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I would guess you have lost one of the pads that stick to the door and press against the light switch. This makes the door only just operate the switch. As the car flexes the switch will make and break and the lighting relay will chatter loudly accompanied by flashing interior lights (if they are switched on). This is also a likely culprit for a flat battery as the relay can stay energised (until it has flattened the battery ) even with the door shut.

The little round self adhesive pads that stick on the inside of flat pack furniture doors to stop them banging are an ideal fix. You will probably find some in the pot behind the living room clock along with the three faulty Christmas tree light bulbs, some curtain hooks and an odd shaped metal bit.
