got my griff now

picked up my griff 500 earlier this week and now ive put a few miles on it im slowly getting to grips with it no problems yet other than working out the heater controls and how to stow the roof but ive worked that one out now.
i think mine must have the rover gearbox as its a bit hard to select third and gearshifts are quite slow in general
the build quality is poor its nervous at motorway speeds the alarm is a pain the boots to small the fuel economy steep its noisy and a bastard to park i fuc*in love it!
p.s especially 3rd gear hummmm

Easy to tell which 'box you've got Ian.
If its up to the left of 1st you've got a LT77 rover box.
If its down to the right below 5th you've got the later box.
I've got the LT77 in both the Griff and a Landrover and there's no noticable stiffness in the gears.
If you've got this box the trick to selecting reverse without crunching it is to select 5th then reverse.

give yourself a few weeks before you make a change to a new box i remember reading a thread on ph, afew weeks ago there is quite a bit to alter it is not 1out 1 in it coult just be your driving (don,t mean to be nasty) ,you might have to adapt your driving, or it might be where the car has been standing for so long, i,ll would give it afew weeks see what it,s like after that good luck paul.
It should not be nervous at motorway speed, though they do go a bit light at track speeds, though I’m hoping to get that sorted.
I’d get your suspension checked and tracked by a TVR specialist. The front top bushes are prone to breaking down rather quickly mines 10 years old has done 40k and is now on 3rd set (not too expensive for standard bits). I’m also just in the process of replacing the original springs and shock’s as these too have finally had enough.
I have the later box and it has always been a stiff (compared to the Toyota) in my opinion, but you do get used to that.

i think my first job is to change the gearbox linkages although ive see service exchange lt77 gearboxes on ebay for £300 (quite reasonable me thinks)

The remote linkage is quite special ~ I think you will struggle to find one of these, there are plenty of pariahs (MGBV8 / funny cobracopyists et al) that find these short linkages very desirable.... Box just Vitesse ~ linkage rather unusual. If you want to spend money on your box - have a specialist rebuild & beef it up.
