Sump advice please

Hi everyone.I want to reseal the sump on the Griff,but don't want to lose the oil from the pump.Will leaving the oil filter in place prevent the oil draining from the pump?Cheers,regards Dave J.

Hi Mate if you have a serp engine it is unlikely that the pump will cause you a problem
when draining the oil.
Just have everything to hand and don't take all day and you will be fine.

Pre serp is another matter.

Should be, my 95 500 is. As he said, pump priming is not an issue on the Serps.

Hi Mate if it has one large belt driving the alternator etc it is a serp.

Just done this on a Chim 450 so I can confirm no priming problems and I had to remove the strainer to extract all the bits of old gasket too!
Your choice of using a Range Rover cork gasket or a bead of sealant. I think that it is worth taking some time with the tin sump to make sure the flanges are flat - they tend to distort at each bolthole as people tighten them up to stop the leaks. Use a straight metal edge to check and adjust using a wood block or rubber mallet.
