I am thinking of starting a long term performance upgrade of my Griff (cam already done as mine died at 36k miles) - the final part will be fitting an increased cc bottom end.
Part of this plan is to have a coil pack from a P38 RR installed to replace the distributor. Are the P38 coil packs all the same, or is there a spcific year model coil pack that I should buy?
Advice appreciated.

No they are not the same and the coil pack of choice will be determined largely by the ECU you will be using to control it. The standard ECU doesn't support this as it only has a lickle brain...
The later ones are better circa Range Rover 2000 model. Two packs driving four cylinders each. But as I said, choose coil packs to suit the control unit you will be using.

When I did the emerald conversion on my wedge, I used a pair of Ford coil packs, which worked fine, but the plug leads had to be ones off an mid 90's Xr2 to get the right end on them.
The rover ones can be a bit unreliable apparently as well as difficult to get cheaply.
Another option is the peugot / citroen one as that uses a normal plug lead, so you could probably re-use your existing leads
