help needed - 4 point harness fixings - where?
Discussion
For some reason the existing seatbelt fixing on the tunnel was moved when my car was re-chassis'd - there's a hole in the carpet near the back of the rear footwell area where it used to be on the old chassis, but now it's fixed about 8-10" further forward, right hard up against the seat frame with bu**er all clearance for an eyebolt
Are all late Griffs like that? Anyone got any advice? Might there still be another fixing point back in the old position?
Also I think I have found the rear fixing point by poking around under the car - it seems to be on top of the rear chassis tower behind each seat area but the gap between the chassis and the body presumably requires a long-ish bolt and a big-ish hole in the parcel shelf? anyone done this?

Are you sure its not already got the bolts in? My 93 Chim did, under the carpet/foam.

You can get harnesses with bolt-on fixings instead of clip-on ones, or at a pinch you can put a bolt through the clip-on fitting (although this tends to mangle the clip). For the rear fixings you should attach the rear straps to the rear stays of the roll-over bar. The bar should have been designed to position these close to the center line of the seat.
There are two threaded bushes in the chassis rail the forward one takes the end of the lap belt and the rearward one is intended as a fixing for the factory roll hoop. Is that the one you are referring to that is towards the rear ? The fixings you refer to which are accessed via holes in the parcel shelf are for the roll hoop back stays. They would be too far inboard for what you want.
As Pete says the harness shoulder straps normally attach to an eye bolt on the roll hoop backstay. After changing my Hoop from the factory one to a proper one the backstay was too close to properly use the adjuster on the Willans harness I had so they made be a special.

thanks all - I don't have a hoop/rollbar (yes I know that's not popular
so was looking at fixing the rear point somewhere appropriate as I was under the impression that this can be done easily on a late chassis. The only option as far as I can see is the hoop fixing on the rear of the chassis (there's no bolt in them, I can just feel a hole on the top of the strut which I assume is a threaded 7/16" nut? )and currently I have no holes in the rear pacel shelf that I am aware of - I assumed I have to cut one to mount the eye bolt thru to the captive nut?
If that's not an option 'cos it's too far inboard I can't see another way, as the top mount for the existing inertia reel system looks to be too far outboard...
As for the tunnel mount, if it is where it is, i.e hard up against the seat frame then I'm pretty stuck on that too...
I'll get ma coat....

The rear straps should ideally be within 15 degrees of parallel to the vehicle centerline in the vertical and horizontal planes, and certainly no more than 30 degrees. Exceed that and you risk serious injury from the offset loads on your neck.
Oh and in case it isn't obvious by now, full harness without rollover protection is a major
