Query for those who know more:
This also on general forum

Got a 5 stud conv. for the Griff, have everything but calipers. Tried it with standard calipers, but no joy- won't clear disc. Am I missing something obvious?

If not, does anyone want to buy a 5 stud conv.for a Griff because I genuinely can't be arsed any more. Thankyou in advance for sarcastic comments

You could maybe get some adaptor brackets made, but then I am not sure the original calipers will clear the width of the new discs anyway.

How much do you want for the kit?

Mail me if you like.

Hi

Look at my profile, as I have done this conversion myself.
Mail me, if you what more info. Easier to have a chat. Would need to know where the conversion was originally manufactured. Some pictures would help. The result are well worth the hassle and expense.

Whose 5 stud conversion, I dont think they are all the same.

The factory style & its copies use disks for AP 4 pots & require an ally spacer.

If you wish to retain your old calipers, you may just need some Granads disks (same as your old ones with 5 holes..)

What size are the discs?? Thats the only reason i can think of that the discs would hit the calipers?? If there not standard 272mm(I think) then they will hit. If you have larger discs then you will need caliper spacer brackets or different calipers.

Out of interest, why would one go to all the trouble of fitting the 5 x stud conversion and re-using the old calipers & dics? Surely the whole purpose is to allow the fitting of larger wheels which in turn allow for larger discs and better calipers?

Sounded as if this was what the OP asked, just answering his question. Cost / phased upgrades? who are we to say.

Sure, it was just a corollary to your comment. I guess he must have bigger discs which, of course will require a bracket manufacturing to position the caliper correctly relative to the disc and hub.

Thanks for input, guys. To reply to Rich's comment- wheels are 16" spiders. MAY upgrade brakes one day, but conversion primarily for the spider look. I like the brakes as they are.

Something to plan for the future... those Tamora APRacing 4 x pots will look good under the spiders

thumbup Definitely worth upgading to the AP Calipers and 300mm discs, my Griff stops like it should do now with no brake fade on track days, winner! smokin

Yeah, you should get 300mm discs in 17" no problem, I have 315mm with 4 x Pot APRacing calipers and 17" RL7 wheels...

richb,

what spacers did you use to get the RL7s on.

I am about to embark upon a 16" spider conversion which I gather go straight on, but in an ideal world would like the RL7s which my understanding is are somewhat more difficult to get the offsets right.

any advice gratefully received,

Howard

Howard, I used 4 stud 108 pcd RL7s of the correct off-set for my car so no need for spacers. I assume you are thinking of using Cerbera 5 stud RL7s in which case there is something about using fronts or rears and spacers - not sure, sorry. Rich...
