Griff under £10k

Hi guys,

Right got a shortlist of 1 which is a J plate 4.0 grif pre cat.

Test drove and all seems well and chasis from my unexpert eye seems alright.

Fans kick in when then should and oil pressure seems good.

The guy wants circa £9000 for it including a warranty and it is from a performance car dealer that has bought and sold TVR's before.

What do i need to look for and having previosuly had an elise I am going to be able to handle the Grif?

Sounds like a good deal. You should be fine with one. I upgraded from a 2.2 VX220 and have loved every minute of the Griff. It is completely different machine just remember easy on the right peddle otherwise you can be facing the wrong way before you know it. I do miss the VX but am glad to have a V8, there is something about that noise.

If it's been serviced on schedule, the chassis's ok, it doesn't drip or leak, the appearance is OK and it drives without fault then it sounds like a very good deal. There are 1001 things that could be wrong with it, like with any 15 year old car. The nice thing about Griffs is that if their basically sound, they're very cheap to run.

One minor point, if it's not had a pucker service within the last year or so be prepared for a (potentially) lumpy bill - Even so, if it costs £1,000 for the service and a few odds & ends, you still have a Griff for less than £10,000!

Get an expert to look at the chassis. I can't emphasise this too strongly. It might cost £100 for them to check it out but you'll save that money 5-10 times over if they identify problems. Do this even if the car has a recent MOT. Even though you may think the chassis looks OK there can be hidden corrosion in the outriggers/corners/wishbones. Not cheap or easy to fix. The only proper way to find this is on a ramp and a lot of mucky 'feeling around' in the right places....

I'd also suggest to check everything electrical - if you're like me and electrics are a totally alien science - then getting a garage to fix irritating electrical faults can soon add up at £50+ per hr.

If the above work out OK, and the car is otherwise good, then a Griffith for under 10K is pretty good news IMHO.

Naaa, thats not a big bill....witness my blog!

And i think theres another biggun on its way (hope not though). And, yeah, there are some upgrades therin. At Automedon having new hood and other bits and bobs plus service, decat (precats) and mot etc etc etc.....


Back to the post-seems good value, go on, yya know ya want to! Follw the phil c road, cant go too far wrong!

Looks like it has had a hardish life (check out the pedals-rusty as heck!)
but good value or so it appears.....
