Rear window repair

Hi can anybody tell me were i can get a repair on my Griffs rear window done, part of the stitching as come away. HELP

Depending on where you live. I tracked down a local trimmer to put a new rear screen in my Griff. Cost me £180. I had to remove the rear hood assy myself though (a bit fiddly!) But he did a brilliant job. He's located in Frimley, Surrey.

For a temporary* fix I've found clear silicone sealant very good for bonding the rear window back into the hood.

(* - I say temporary, but my rear screen has been "temporarily" fixed with clear silicone for around 18 months )

Uuum why not just get in there with the needle and button thread? You'll need a thimble to push the needle through and rub some candle wax over the thread before you start as it'll waterproof the thread and lubricate things when sewing

Button thread is ime not heavy enough, you need the sort of heavy duty thread that is used for sadlery and tent making. Also it's a lot easier to put a sewing machine needle in a chuck so you can push it through and stitch it like a sewing machine does, working mainly from one side. You can get hand-held needles like this from some of the trimming specialists.

Sorry to interrupt the sewing bee that seems to be forming here ( ) but I thought I'd offer some advice, having just had my Tamora rear window replaced due to stitching coming undone.....

(1) If you are near Edinburgh try Ramsay Trimmers on 0131 440 0555. Did a magic job and at a very reasonable price.
(2) Whatever you do DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE to bond the screen to your hood. It (allegedly) sets with sharp edges - leading to even more stitching being damaged.
(3) If you are removing the hood to do the stitching I would suggest that it might be an opportune time to replace the window. In for a penny.........

Hi all

The girlfriend had her Boxster rear screen replaced by a company in Basildon, Essex. They have done an amazing job. I can't remember their name but I will find some details and post them once found. I think the cost was £250 but they do come highly recommended though.

I will keep you posted.

I had mine done by Aj Trimming in Bourne End near High Wycombe and he did an excellent job for a decent amount of readies.

i had my hood replaced and targa covered by HOOD'S GALORE in leigh on sea essex...i think they do rear screens only as well they are on the web
