Pre track day rolling road adviseable - pinking ?
Discussion
I'm planning to take the Griff on a track day, where no doubt it will get fairly worked up. I saw an article a coupla weeks back about the TVR RR session and it suggested that a number of cars had been advised not to do the power runs because they were pinking.
Is this a common TVR failing, and should I get it checked out before giving it a good thrashing on a track ?
thanks
If it's easy to do so, then why not? It will give you peace of mind.
I've heard my Griff pink in the past and it was pretty easy to hear so an alternative would be to find somewhere safe to use max throttle and listen out for it. Of course, even if you are on track you don't *have* to rev the nuts off it the whole time

Pinking is potentially very damaging to an engine.
Trackdays are very demanding on the cars mechanicals and its always advisable to have it checked over (service) near to when you start trackdays. If you have had a service in the last 8 weeks you are probably ok, but if you have noticed any change in performance since then it would be prudent to have a quick health check (if nothing else to ensure you are getting the most from your engine on the day). That being said, when mine was pulled from the RR in january with pinking I was unable to notice it on the road.
Remember to take oil and water with you as you may use lots of both. I always take a foot pump and tyre pressure guage as well. Oh, and if you have PAS some fluid for that as well (they seem to have a habit of pushing the fluid out of the reservior cap on track days).
