after a decent run in the griff last week, I noticed on the way back down the m3 that whilst above 2800rpm the voltage meter on the dash had crept up to just over the 15 volt mark, and the alternator light on the dash was frantically flashing.
easing off on the loud pedal and the volts slowly dropped to just below the 15 mark, and the light goes out.

I took the alternator off the car today, dropped it off at Lucas this morning and asked them to test it, a few hours later a chap phones me up and says that he was getting nothing out of the alternator at all, then asks" so what boat is this off of sir?"
after making sure that we were both talking about the same alternator, I explained that the ship in question was in fact v8 tvr griffith, he told me that the reason he asked about a boat was because tha alternator had been marinised eek I though this was something my wife did to the chicken before cooking it!
Anyway, I explained the symptoms fro the other day, and he quickly giagnosed a faulty voltage regulator, total bill £36.

what puzzles me is where did this alternator come from, I`ve checked against dnb`s and its exactly the same, I know tvr used whatever was in the cheap parts bin during assembly, but boat alternators,? someones having a larf!

I blame my father-in-law - he was as Lucas the other day with a real boat altenator.

The Guy in the Paint Shop at Racing Green said that Griffs with straight through exhausts sound like power boats.
Maybe he knows something that we don't! hehe

Hope not. It was anything but the sinking feeling going out in mine this evening.
