ballast resistor

Need a new coil, want to order one right now so I can fit it tomorrow.
In my haste I forgot to check last night if I need to buy a ballast resistor or if the Griff (96 500) already has one.

I know how to test for it and have read its near the AFM but thats no good to me right now, I just need to know so I can order my fancy bling Flame Thrower coil now and fit it tomorrow.
Do I need to order a ballast resistor or should I already have a sutiable one on the car?

(No I didn't die! Yes I do still have the Griff and use it. Nearly 10K per year. It fact its in its 3rd anniversary this month!)

Mine didn't have a ballast resistor when it was standard.

The standard EFI coil is unballasted.

I'm a little concerned that you appear to be rushing into the purchase of this coil.

Are you sure you don't want to do a little more research and ask around for further opinion? I reckon you probably need a good year or two of consideration, just to be sure.

Why do you think I haven't been here? I have been isolated in the Ignition Coil Research Facility in Minsk for the past 18 months. All that time and I forgot the ballast resistor! Thats gotta be at least another 5 months worth back out in that cold Belarus shed.

Good to have you back.

Get the proper Bosch coil from ACT for about 40 quid - leave the Flame Throwers for the circus acts.

Are you using the standard ignition amp, or are you going to a high power amp? A souped up coil might not go down too well with the standard amp.

Get a mallory coil, from Real Steel about £40, and there chrome, also put out bigger spark, get a balast resistor as well as it is recommened to fit, though can be optional. Was told the flame thrower were not compatiable.

For the coil number have a search on here as other have used it.
