Hi Guys,
The Griff needs a bit of an oil top up and I am not sure what the previous owner used. What do you put in yours (the car has done 26,000 miles)? Is it essential that I use the same make and grade as is already in there? If it helps, the car was last serviced by a TVR main dealer.

me too use the same stuff and very happy. but might be worth getting in contact with previous owner or contacting the garage where your car was last serviced to see what was used previously.
and a thumbs up to it from me. 
Pro S for me too .... Especially in the colder weather. During the summer and European tours I may move to Pro R, as it is slightly more viscous, and therefore better equipped to deal with the heat better. Pro S is better for cold weather start up as it is slightly less viscous, but in hot hot weather the Pro R is will perform as well .....

Mobil seems to be lots of advertising, where the money goes rather than a good base oil. Very expensive and too much F1 sponsorship means the end user oil is not as good as the price tag it commands.
Silkolene and Motul, are the only 2 oils that use an Ester base, which I am reliably lead to believe is the best base oil to use. Detergents etc aare then laid over the top of that ... I think that's right, happy to be corrected though ..
Number 7 on the wedge forum uses Motul 3000 I think it is, and swears by it ... Although more tricky to get hold of.

Its best to stick to one brand of oil in the sump but if you top up with a different brand all your doing is messing slightly with that oils additive pack(much less damaging than running low on oil)i use Quantum 5/40 fully syn and have no problems with oil consumption or pressure,must say i would consider the silkolene oil a better choice for the RV8 though,and will possibly track this down next oil&filter change i buy the Quantum(VAG/Porsche approved) in bulk so its just plain handy

Well, I have topped up with some semi-synthetic 10 - 40 Mobil 1 as recommended by Opie. I will do a full oil change within the next couple of hundered miles, but would rather make sure the car is properly lubricated until that point. At that point I will put some Silkolene Pro S 10w/50 in, as recommended.

Better a mix of oil than running the level too low, I am sure!!
