Pre Cat heating and ventilation
Discussion
There are no pipes connecting my fresh air vents in the dashboard to the fresh air supply, the problem is that I do not know where the pipes should go,there is a plastic pipe sticking out of the inner wing in the passenger footwell which has two outlets.Does a pipe go from each outlet to each dashboard vent. Also were does the third dashboard vent connect to this is the heated one.Any help would be gratefully received.
One of the outlets goes to the single vent by the passenger door and the other feeds both dash vents with a T piece behind the dash. They seem to use plumbing bits so you should be able to knock something together. Do you still have the metal shrouds which the vents slide into and which the pipes fit to?
There is no fresh air per-se, it's all coming through the same inner wing channel but either passes over the heater matrix or not.

theres a good account on how to improve the pre-cat ventilation on the Griffith pages, apparently a large improvement can be made by fitting a length of flexible pipe between the blower and the intake in the passenger footwell instead of using the gap between the wings.

Anthony, did you attach the new pipework off that airbox you attached to the blower directly to the airbox? and if so how do you get to the back of the airbox - its behind the glovebox isn't it?
Ian, the heaterbox had to come out to fit the airbox to it. Then I attached the pipe to the airbox and fed the whole lot back in.
Bloody difficult, bloody painfull, but worth it in the end......
I used something like 65mm pipe and had to squash it slightly to get it over the wheel arch...

Thanks all for your help,I have one of the metal shrouds and will have to make two more but I have found some flexible ducting to connect the vents up with. Now I only need to practice yoga for a few weeks in order to be flexible enough myself to get into a position in the footwell to complete the job without getting stuck.

Sorry for the edit Antony
but I needed to do it to illustrate the question a bit. Do you reckon if you did the work to attach the pipe to the blower and shoved the pipe over the wheelarch, but then sealed over the wheelarch with something like expanding foam, that you would;
a) be able to do all the work while you've got the headlight out, thus saving the gymnastics-cum-yoga in the footwell to connect to the airbox
b) get a decent improvement in the volume of air being pushed through
Just wondering if theres a sort of halfway, don't have to visit the physio for 2 months after sort of thing.
BTW & completely OT, but I'm bloody sorry not to have got to talk to you a bit more at Chatsworth. Nice to see you though
Edited because I can't spell his bloody name - soz mi old china

No Jay.
The hole I had to cut into the inner wing was on the rear side of the wheel arch, which as you sit in the car would be above and to the right of the battery, behind the water pipes. Looking from the wing into the engine bay through the hole I could see the fusebox and -ve battery terminal. Believe it or not, you've got just a thin skin of fibreglass and heatshield between you and that exhaust manifold!
To be honest though, even if I could I wouldn't have done it. I'd had enough of while-I-am-in-here after more than 8 weeks of it being on axle stands and wanted to get the car finished and back onto its wheels.

And dont worry about not talking more at chatsworth...... I wasnt there.
Are you getting me mixed up with Precat?? Ant with the other green precat on spiders?? Not sure if he was at chatsworth..
