Engine assembly lubricant recommendation
Discussion
I'm looking for a good quality engine assembly lubricant for when I get time to fit the new cam and assemble my Griff engine. Any suggestions?
Also, what is the best strategy for bedding in a 404 cam? I plan to run the engine at 2000 RPM for 20 minutes or so then 3000 RPM for a further 5 minutes (and disturb the neighbours greatly
) Does this sound sensible?
Thanks!

I did 2000rpm for 20 mins, then 2 or 3 mins at 2500rpm.
I think when I ran my 404 in, it was to 3000 rpm from cold and for a period of 20 minutes. It's excrutiating! Anyway, the instruction to do so was by way of leaflet that came with the cam; it may have been from Kent. The cam has done about 12,000 miles and no snags to date.
You should have got some build lub' with the cam but you don't get much to be honest.
Never went through any of this malarky with my bikes!?

Hi,
there are several good articles on camshaft break-in on the net. Recently replaced my cam, use mineral oil not synthetic, gentley vary the engine speed between 2200 - 2800 rpm for 30 minutes, don't let it idle, if necessary turn off engine if an issue then restart and continue the process.
