Servicing In Non TVR Garage
Discussion
I am going to have my Griff (430, 1992, 39,000 miles) serviced in a local garage, which is run by a very trusted and competent race mechanic.
I want to ensure that the correct service schedule is adhered to, so I was going to copy the schedule found in the Steve Heath Bible.
I have read that Mobil 1 0/40 is the correct oil according to the bible, but Silkolene appears to be the preffered choice of Pistonhead members????????
Can I obtain the service book slips anywhere, as I have none left in my logbook?
Finally, is there anything in particular i should ask the mechanic to pay particular attention to?
Thanks in anticipation.

Mobil1 0/40 is too thin for these engines IMHO, if you want to stick with Mobil, then go for Mobil Race 15/50 otherwise Silkoline Pro-R seems to be very popular.

Got to laugh (or maybe cry) at the Service card link.
"Remember to do two as one needs to be sent by the servicer to Blackpool."

If he realy does follow the schedule it should be OK. An experienced race mechanic ought to be able to cast his eye around and pick up on anything untoward, whereas a 'fitter' may not...
The 12k schedule invovles removing the exhaust to inspect, lubricate and check the bolts on the propshaft. It also includes the fuel filter, a brake fluid change and topping up (if not changing) the gearbox and diff fluid. When I phoned a couple of recommended localish establishments last, the conversations were all along the lines of:
"How much for a 12k service on a Griffith?"
"£xxx"
"And that includes the fuel filter, brake fluid change and remving the exhaust?"
"Oooh well I can do that as well if you like, but I might need the car for more than a day"
"Well is it a 12k service or isn't it?..."
The moral, IME is either get the service done 'locally' and do the rest yourself, or pay full whack and get it done properly.
I use Millers 10w60 fully synthetic by the way.
