Odometer wherfore art thou?

On my '92 griff there is no trip meter, which I realise isn't high up the list of desirables but I've always found them rather useful.
Now I've read in a couple of places that speedos can develop an annoying 'tick' which is the guts of the trip meter inside which are apparently still there
So if I was to dismantle my speedo would I find an trip meter that just needed uncovering / cutting a slot in the dial?

Having had my SW speedo apart, I dont recall seeing a "spare" odometer in there.....
The original odometer was never very good. Some Griffs, mine included came with a digital odometer.
It should be possible to replace either type of odometer with the LCD unit from a more modern car.
Fit a suitable size glass with a knob through it to cycle through the functions.
You can then have all the functions the doner car had with the right sensors fitted, temperature, multiple trips, etc.
The only tricky bit would be getting the pulse rate correct.
A small adaptor circuit should take care of that if required.
All we need is to identify a suitable donor speedo and someone to make the adaptor.
I wonder if you could find one with oil temperature?
