I took the sump off my engine last night so I could clean and paint it. And found that my engine has all the parts to be a cross-bolt engine apart from the actual bolts. The bosses in the block are there, but not drilled. It seems a bit odd to me, but it's a TVR so you come to expect these things...

V Common on the blocks for the serpentine versions I think(curiously known as NAS spec it seems). My Disco is the same, outside TVR there are not so many 3.9 serp engines around tho confused

Pretty sure it is known as the " intermediate" block.
Due to it being inbetween the pre serp and later dizzyless and bolted block.

Dont these blocks also have the larger journals?

I'm lucky in that mine is actually cross bolted, although whether 2 3" or 2 5" I do not know.

Later blocks as I understood it had the provision, not necessarilly the actual bolting ..
