Afternoon All,

I think I can answer my own problem, but confirmation would be nice

Yesterday my engine oil level was down to half way on the dipstick, so I topped up to full with Halfords 5W/50 (see the PS). This afternoon, oil pressure is around 45psi at start up, but by the time I got home (4 miles) it was off the bottom of the scale. Eek! No oil light though, oil level is still at top of dipstick, and all temperatures were fine.

After searching on here, it would seem that the "5W/50 fully synthetic motorsport oil, for track days and enthusiastic driving" is a bit thin for the V8. Sooooo, if that's the case, is a full oil change the best route forward, and as soon as possible? And if so, what flavour of oil should be put in?

Ta!

PS In my defence for using Halfrauds oil, I *thought* I was getting 15W/50 like it says on the webshite and instore, but I didn't check the label that actually says 5W/50. www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_230747_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__CarSelectorGroupId__varient__categoryId_77306_crumb_33958-53252_parentcategoryrn_77306

Can't believe just topping up, maybe 1/2 litre, would give you this problem. Someone cleverer than me will be along shortly and point you in the right direction.

WHat viscousity is in the engine now, as I would also be surprised to see a drop that significant half a litre of 5/50 if the rest is 15/50.

Example, one garage changed my 15/50 for o/40 and I still had an oil pressure that was 75% of that of 15/50. So half a litre should not cause that amount of drop.

I got home and promptly dropped that out the bottom of the engine and put some proper stuff in !
