how much is a standard 500 engine worth?
Discussion
A 5 litre engine is usually £3-4k in decent order. The box would have ben worth roughly £4-500 i reckon, putting this one bang on the money really.Obviously a std one with a few miles will be at the lower end,and a re-built or better specced one will be at the £4k end.Ones with more extensive mods fetch even more of course.
I think 2 Monkeys will be pleased with the e-bay result!www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=13&t=390785
I see you were well off the mark as always,Jigs(Jay Ayegees)

Aha - I do KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS ONE!
If you have a 500 lump in great nick (i.e. buyer can drive it, see it running) and under 30k miles I'd say 3250 (which is what I got for my 28k lump with a fresh cam in it). Over 40k then you are rapidly heading down on price - they do seem prone to cams going and don't really make that great power in std tune (barely over 50bhp/litre TRUE bhp).
If I had a choice low mile 4.6 or medium mile 500 lump, I'd go 4.6 and go the wild cam root.
Box should get 400+ if can be seen in car.
All helps and adds up when you want to go crazy!

it was my engine on ebay that sold for £4000 with only 25,000 miles on it, i would say thats the going rate for a good engine that can be tested and driven with service history ect... most breakers i rang when i was looking for an engine want 5K with no history in a smashed up car so the engine has obviously been well used lol
a dealer brought the engine off me so good indercation it was worth more!
rich

Yes. The ACT bits alone are worth half that sum.
