Eyup all,

Griff 500 40k- noticed its a bit tappety when warm at 2000rpm+. To me it sounds like a bit of top end wear (cams, followers or such like). I could be being a bit paranoid, but how much will it cost me to have top end overhaul, etc. Maybe even upgrade for a bit of extra grunt (not that there's a shortage of it anyway) Its not going to go BANG! is it?!?!?!?!

Mine went Bang after a top end rebuild so choose carefully.

Worth checking that it is not rattle from the drive belt tensioner bearings.

Just rebuilt the top end of mine too. After 104,000 miles smile

Cost was around the same as Clive's.

I stripped, cleaned & inspected the heads (thankfully nothing wrong with the valve seats or guides), had the exhaust valves reground, new stem seals, 404 cam, new followers, new valve springs, tin head gaskets smile , new timing chain & gears, and new rockers & shafts.

Not started it yet, so I hope I got everything back together correctly!!

Is it a rattle after revving?, ie as the revs begin to drop off, this could be expensive for you 500 boys

It may very well be leaking exhaust manifold gasket - this sounds like a mechanical knocking noise. Try tightening the bolts.

So what will that be then? all the 500s I've owned have had a little chatter as the revs drop including after a refresh at TVR Power

make a lot more sense if people were allowed to list problems about suppliers so those without bigpocet + suitus syndrome and ignorant in long lost languages from afar, actually stood a chance...!! - I have had several people write direct revealing some horrific incidents from 'professionals' that because of this ruling, continue to bully customers...
