Precat alternator
Discussion
Current drain, all of a sudden, half way through the bloody MOT(it passed), resulting in cabbaged battery and my head in bits trying to figure out what was draining it(12V at bedtime,2V at breakfast)so quick. To cut a long story very short(glovebox lid nearly in orbit after bouncing on bonce 37 times while arsing about with jump leads/fuses/relays etc)the 'alternator diodes had gone' - quote from autoelectromagician-alternator £130exch.Reason I'm writing is to post part nos etc:Precat 4.3 alternator is model no A127-65, additional code on it 54022198B, made by Magnetti Marelli, now part of Lucas. Battery is type 069(not 063/065-Ta Halfords).Hope this is of use to someone.
can now do these alternators in a -99 format. this gives 99 amp output rather than the 65amp.
the upgrade was for later cars (r/rover)with more accesories like a/c heated seats etc.
rimmer bros will do these for around the same price.
also demon sharks etc (look for RV8 alt upgrade)
specify year and model.
(motor factors can also deal..

Might be a bit late now, looking at the date of the original question. I changed the V8S alternator last year sounds like the same one to me, check out this thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=57252&f=11&h=0&hw=alternator Seem to remember it being just under £100 from rimmers, but got it in the end via my local garage for about £85 I think. Obviously fitted it myself at that price.
