Genuine windscreens are available from TVR Power and David Gerald.Between them they will also have the new upper and lower trim which is best to replace at the same time.smile

yesterday got my griff out of garage to discover 10" crack across windscreen (aaaarghhh!!!!!!!!)from the passenger side bottom corner upwards. I think it has been caused by regular slamming of the door on that side

My insurance co. only uses Autoglass but having read all the posts about windscreen problems am more than a little worried about who replaces mine...

however...I rang my local Autoglass at Bolton and a nice chap there re-assured me somewhat by confirming a) how hard they are to do properly b) that he has done many as he used to work at the Blackpool branch.

he also confirmed that it's a 2 day job best done in their workshops and that he would try to source a genuine OE screen and trims to get the best result possible.

so, maybe not so bad after all - will see what happens....

i have just picked my griff up from david geralds garage in worcs and they have replaced the screen with a oe tvr part...the only hassle now is getting my claim paid from insurers (allianz cornhill on the tvrcc manning insurance)and having a £100 excess rather than £60 due to me not using autoglass.

I will post final outcome in case anyone is interested

by the way.. the final bill from DG was cheaper than quoted by auotglass (after i asked autoglass how much they would be billing insurers if i gave them the job, the difference was £85)

I rung the KGM (Lloyds Glassline) on friday re my cracked screen and they arranged for replacement to be fitted at RAC Ashford, the RAC eventualy rang me back (a day later)mad and said they've ordered the screen and that I'm booked in on wednesday at 10am and they need the car for 2.5 hours, I turned up as booked (50mile round trip) and they looked at me as though I was from planet Zog (you guessed it, no windscreen, or they couldn't be bothered)furiousso I'm off to Le Mans with a cracked windscreen.
But to be quite honest it didn't look like a place I'd want to leave my griff, so what next?

And having seen his guys at work, I'd recommend them unreservedly.

Hi All

Just back from le mans with a twelve inch crack ( ok more like six inches but the wife is reading this lol )

Last year whole screen went and had it replaced by autoglass - no problems at all apart from trim came unstuck after a while so took it back in and they sorted it- finally when the track v road boys serviced the car it was stuck properly as it was hanging off again -

The guys in stirling were helpful and they also let me stay and vacuum all the crap out under the screen - it is amazing the stuff you find including old tax discs !!

Will be back in with them next week

Hopefully it will last another year

Ty

ok they (autoglass) had it 2 days and I got it back today and it's crap. the roof doesn't sit snug against the top trim anymore and water now trickles in thru the gap. it looks like the trim has peeled away at the top o/s corner and i can actually see the top of the glass edge now. to be fair the chap did warn me that the trim has a tendency to do this and that he had done it twice so far...but he's going to have to do it again I'm afraid.

the trim doesn't look the same as the old one (from memory) - but he said both the glass and trim came from TVR via their central purchasing dept. so it should be right.

anyone got any advice? I assume he is going to have to remove the trim and try to re-fit without the gap this time, but maybe he has to take the screen out again too??

yours gutted etc....this is J524MHG we're talking about.

Screen out and start again.

These screens are tricky to get right; once the new one goes in, the trim has to be slotted over the edge of the glass before pulling the roof into its correct position. All this has to be done to get the screen to sit right (and done pretty sharpish - the glue starts to grab very quickly).

I had the same problem with the rubber trim on my old Chimaera, look at this old thread.

I was right to be scared, scratches on wings/bonnet, screen fitted too high so rubber dosn't fit properly, rubbers peeling off and fouling doors.

Yours

You should have told them to reuse your original trims if they were still in good nick - BUT don't despair keep at them and they will eventually get it right - was it a TVR screen they fitted i.e. is TVR stamped on the passenger side? They tried to palm me of with a Clearvue screen which was slightly too big. They had to take it out and fit a proper TVR one - they also had two or three goes at getting the trim to fit - in the end it's now sorted.
