I have a feeling my clutch isn't going to last too long. It gets whiffy quite quickly and can squark a little when reverse is used for the first journey of the day. So what sort of a job is it to change? I've got axle stands/trolley jacks etc. and a single garage yikes Is it a reasonable job or can it be a bit of an arse? Is there any special tooling required other than an alignment tool?

Box is a T5 on a 96 car.

They never like going into reverse at the best of times, slip it into 5th first then straight back and it should be nice and smooth.

I've not done a Griff clutch with the engine and box in the car - mine was on an engine crane at the time - but from looking at the space available, it looks like it will be tricky to get at everything, but do-able.

Sussed that one, but this car came from Rochdale you know. They have hills and everything up there yes Just got a feeling the friction plate is a little on the thin side after all those hills and it's not going to last forever.

Clutches don't normally wear out here in the flatlands biggrin

Just changed clutch on mine and is fairly straightforward if you have some mechanical knowhow.Other tool you might need is clutch aligning tool or old gearbox output shaft. Also this is the second clutch i have changed in less than a year as i bought a cheap one (from ebay)which was not up to the job.Buy a decent clutch and do the job once.If you would like more info' email me from my profile.

Good luck..........Simon.

Is there room for the bellhousing to clear the bulkhead or is it a jack/crane the engine to a suitable angle job?

I changed my clutch over a weekend, I found I had to unbolt the bellhousing from the gearbox to get it through the chassis, the hardest bit was getting the gearbox back up because you have to twist it through the chassis and its heavy when your on your back.
