Hi all,
Went for a run on saturday roof off fantastic, only problem was the cockpit temp was unbareable.Came home and removed the panel in the passenger foot well to check the operation of the heater valve this seems to be working fine.My question is, is the valve open or closed when the operating arm is in the upper position, which ever I chose the temp seems to still be the same.

Mine is the same. It seems comfortable when I'm moving along, but as soon as I get stuck in traffic the temp in the car goes up with little or nothing you can do with the heater controls to stop it. The heater always does what the temperature gauge is doing. I've been told that I need to disconnect the heater valve and blow through it to check its position, then remove the radio to reveal potentiometers that can be adjusted to improve things. I havn't got round to doing this yet, but would be interested to here from anyone who has.

This might help. obviously it will depend on the orientation of the valve and the motor on your car.

Thanks Barreti,

So with the arm in the upper position the valve is open as per your pic.So I need the arm in the lower position to stop the water flow into the heater matrix.

Many thank this may stop the soles of my shoes melting now

Hi, noticed similar heat issues today ....it's not nice, hood was on, driving in traffic. When I turn the switch to hot it becomes very hot, when set cool it's very warm which does indicate valve issues. What's the best and easiest way to fix this on a 98 griff.... Thanks Bas

Head in the footwell and press the hot/cold switch while watching the motor. There is a pretty good chance you'll notice if anything is awry.
Alternatively, undo the motor from the valve - pop off the grip on the back of the little rod and it pulls out - and manually open/close the valve and see what happens.

Get the Golf HCV from GSF. Only about a tenner and works a treat.

Yup biggrin

All explained here.

You need to cut it and drill a hole but it's a doddle to do as it's made of plastic. Changed my car from Hell's sauna to something a bit more bearable smile Heck, I can even get lukewarm air from the blower in summer now.

Thanks from me too. Might try and change the HCV prior to a 3rd potential trot round europe in the Griff smile
