Help its hot in here
Discussion
Hi guys i hope the fountain of knowledge out there can help please.
Im off to le mans on wed and thought i would try to do something about the heat problem in my pre-cat 4.0ltr i know its a bit later but thought in may just be a sticking valve. On removing the dash i have found a lack of ducting to the vents in the dash and no sign of ducts anywhere to be seen. is this normal or am i indeed missing some vital parts? Any advice pictures would be much appreciated.
thanks again

You should have some ducting to the vents. I believe on the pre-cats they both come from the left ( passenger side) with a joiner splitting them for each vent.BB

thats wot i thought but nothing evident. stripping the dash out to see if i can find anything to connect the vents too.any pictures anyone has would be very helpful please
Without the square aluminium connectors (see below) to fit the pipework to the vents I think you're wasting your time a bit.
You should find a hole in the inner wing, underneath the glovebox, against your passengers left shin. This is where the pathetic breath of air we get comes from. Run a pipe from there, then using a T, one pipe goes to the passenger side vent the other runs across the back of the dash, splitting again for the two dash vents. There is a square section of ali which slips onto the vents behind the dash, the pipework fits onto this although I can't remember how just now.

Do you have one for the left hand vent too? can see it when opening the glove box. I will have a dig for some pictures but I think I only have 500 ones. Although some of the earlier 500s may be the same if they dont have the drivers side fan too.
BB
Some pictures here may help on a 500 though.. clicky
and here
will dig round for some better ones.

try mailing antonyj he done the motor upgrade the and has some picture on this thread LINK to thread
This is the only pic I've got that may help.
Seems I was wrong and only the left hand vents are physically connected, the one closest to the driver is fed from a different place, which is a tube going from NS to OS in the engine bay. You can see the 'plumbing'
coming through the dash.

Off the wall idea - you haven't got the cover off the clutch reservoir have you? Heat comes directly from the engine bay to the driver if you run with the cover off!

no i wish it was that simple i found the problem which was broken limit switches on the heater control motor in the footwell. but closer inspection i found i have a hole in the inner wing where there should be a duct which should lead to the passenger side vent which seems intacked apart from pipe work the pipework must then link to the passenger side centre vent and then onto the driverside vent all pipe work and ally adoptors missing
anyway should be able to get it sorted now i know wot im looking for
thanks again for all your help
