This car exhaust mod:

I've not heard the second one - doesn't having an empty box cause it to resonate?
I have the sleeved mod, and I like it lots. Pounds per smile, it is the best £140 I have ever spent

I've not heard the 2nd one yet either! Picking the car up later this week. I was a little surprised they did it this way; I explained how it was done before by another place & was happy with it. Apparently their way is best though... we'll see..!

The just open the rear box and cover the baffles and weld back up, or cut out and weld in a straight through pipe.....or you can get Cheery bombs welded in....along with wadding left in and taken out too.

I have Offords straight through and wadding out ears

Offords tend to put the wadding back in these days (had it done last Thursday)

I sleeved my exhaust myself. I put the wadding back in to stop resonance. I sleeved mine rather than just removing the wadding because I thought it would be less likely to affect the back pressure. The sound is brilliant and it definitely goes as well. Pops and crackles on the over-run just right, even with the cats n pre-cats still in. evil

Right, I have had both.

option 1: baffles removed, perforated pipe stays. This was louder but sounded a bit boomy/echoey at around 1500-3000rpm. Wasn't happy (or any of the other dwarves).

option 2: perforated pipes cut out, replaced with normal pipes. Basically a straight-through exhaust pipe with cats in place. Sounded slightly louder, not boomy at all, with a much rawer sound. Think '60s V8 muscle car.

I know a company in West London who can do it for around £60-100. Email me if you want the details.

Agreed.. it IS a bit of a boom box when going through the rev range there are certain frequencies that really amplify the change. I'm going to stick with it & see if I like, if not I'll get it changed to match my previous 500

wavey Offords left the wadding in when they did mine to stop any "tinniness".

OT, did you manage to get that data back in the end?

My local Indie removed the wadding from mine when I enquired on making the Griff louder.
Only cost £60, an hour or so's labour basically.

They warned that some folk have previously said it's a bit too loud and gave them a headache - "SOLD, I WANT SOME OF THAT!" was my reply.

Love it! Don't find it tin'ee or resonates at all. What I would say is there's less of the muffled V8 Rumble and a bit more bark if that makes any sense? Only thing I would like to improve would be a bit of pop and crackle on the overrun like my old Cerbie. Means getting into Cat removal and stuff I believe so it's a bit more hassle for MOT's than I'd like. Hmmmm...

Beware that deliberately tampering with your zorst can get you onto trouble with the law. I researched this when I got pulled for being too loud with my straight through pipes on. Basically you can buy an off the shelf system - even if it is really loud - and fit it, no probs but if you tamper with the existing then this is illegal.

Either way if plod pull you and reckon you are too loud they can slap a prohibition notice on the car

Thats why I went the cherry bomb route after being pulled as the local BiB who was really good about it and I didnt want to take the p1ss

Mind you nothing would compare to the racket Pasco's car makes - cancel the noise comp at the Growl - we have our winner bow

It's not all about volume chaps - quality's where it's at!
Most of the modded zorsts sound great at full chat or overrun, but at tickover they sound like gurgling tug boats. IMHO.

I'll get me coat shall I? getmecoat

Had nice blast last night. It DOES have a very different characteristic to the modded exhaust on previous car (sleeved) but like it all the same, so will stick with it for time being. However, I simply cant get it to pop & bang like the other one. Real shame! Ed

I ended up going for the full fat option:

Rip off everything including manifolds and Y-piece and downpipes, replace with ACT stainless decat smaller diameter manifolds, decat Y-piece and cherrybomb system from there back... Was a tad more expensive than the Offords conversion but my god it puts a smile on your face! biggrin

Been told it sounds like a low flying Spitfire which is exactly what I was going for - simply awesome from tickover to redline..
