I have my passenger door panel off at the moment (got my girlfriend to do the really fiddly bit! - shes not forgiven me yet!!) because there is a horrible grinding noise when lowering for the first 10 mm from when the window is fully up, then - with manual intervention - the window mechinism works normally for the rest of its travel.

I havent removed the motor, because i assumed the whole mechanism would need to come out, and i guessed that the motor converts rotory movement to linear via some inaccessible sealed flexible rack and pinion design.

Is it worth me trying to dismantl any further, or once some teeth have been stripped on the (flexible) rack does it just need scraping.

Was going to ring the garage next week, but any help gratefully received!

You're quite right the window motor winds a flexible lead screw which pushes the window mech up and down.

It may be fixable though, worth getting the door card off and buying some of that silicone spray from halfords, to spray all over the window channels. also check nothing is catching on the mech once you can see inside the door

It may be worth smearing a load of copper grease into the channel that holds the long-windy-screw-thing that is driven by the motor. Doing that made significantly more difference than spraying silicone into the runners.

Thanks guys.

I think the flexible 'rack' has been stripped fot the top 20 mm of travel.

does any one know if I can move it passed the worn bit, or does it all have to come out?

does anyone know if just the flexible rack or the motoor pinion can be replaced?

lothed to strip it down any further if the whole mechinism needs to be replaced, the garage can do that!
