Not done too many motorway trips since owning my Griff boxedin but yesterday did over 200 motorway miles.
The temp gauge shows 90 max up to 70mph and even when in stop start traffic for hours it stays under 90. Go over 70 for any longer than 5 mins and the gauge creeps up to 94 - 95. Can someone give me an idea why this happens? I would have thought stop start traffic was the worst time for high temps!

Pre-serp 94 500 toothed belt. I can get half a "swist turn" on the belt. Is this a way of telling if it's tight enough? Looks in god nick.
Why is it toothed when the "v groves" are not notched? (sorry don't know the correct names)
Got no leaks, water levels haven't changed for 6 months!

Notched V belts were sometimes fitted to stop belt squeal, The tension sounds about right I used to tension mine to allow about 1/2 to 1 inch movement on the longest section between the top two pulleys.
I would look at the fluid levels/air locks in the system and the condition of your radiator. Could be a number of other reasons but this would be a starting point before looking and engine issues.

Just checked all the fluid levels before a run out. Topped the water up a little higher than it's ever been (3 inch from the top) and I couldn't believe the difference in temps. It's down by about 3-5c! (TVR gauge guess) Didn't think it would make that much difference. It's been the same ever since I bought it. Even after a service!
Maybe it's just been OK tonight. Better try it again tomorrow smileGood excuse to drive it more
