Assuming you mean a serpentine TVR RV8, the fuel rails are basically in the same place on all the hotwire engines but there are a couple of variations of end fittings so not always freely interchangeable. If you mean a THOR engine, it'll be quite different.

Thor is the injection unit, the engine itself will fit , but not with the thor top end.

I belive there are two types of P38 coil packs, but only the earlier version can be used.

Not sure if the look the same though.

All the RV8 engines TVR used from the later wedges onwards use the Lucas 14 CUX/Hotwire engine management system and the corresponding hardware. All 'hotwire' installations have basically the same fuel rail, there are some variations in end fittings but the rail itself is always in the same place.*

Landrover went on to use the THOR/GEMS design later which uses a completely different ECU, sensors, intake manifold, fuel rail etc, basically nothing in common with the hotwire setup except that they both go on top of the same basic engine. TVR didn't use this setup.

  • Except mine, which has a custom fuel rail just to confuse things. smile

thanks for your help guys i popped into a landrover and 4x4 shop this morning and indeed they do make two different fuel rails for the hotwire F.I. so i will need to track down some with serpentine engine to see how theirs differs or wait a week for my mate to come back
thanks again

I thought GEMS was the sagem ecu with traditional style plenum & the Thor was the bosch ecu with a coiled snake on top of the engine. Both come in 4.0 & 4.6 capacities, minor revisions for crank sensor (knock sensors only on Bosh??)

Sorry to add fuel to the fire but the P38 coil packs don't have the best reputation for reliability and are quite expensive, I'd recommend a couple of Ford or Citroen coil packs instead

Can you be more specific Matt, I have a set of each in stores!
There are the ones that are 4x2 coils and then the later ones that are 2x4 coils

yeah heard this myself but was told the reliability probs were with the later ones iirc they can be expensive unless you pick up a second hand set on fleabay only advantage is that they are made to fit on the back of the inlet manifold and you can find H.T leads on the shelf
cheers ant
