Coolant from Front Cover
Discussion
Not mine . . . It's flying . . . Someone elses.
Got in the car and drove it 3 miles to the garage and then notied he had coolant leaking underneath. Ran the car home, and then the investigation . . .
Pressurised the system (Steve Heath gadget) and found the coolant dripping from bottom of front cover . . . Working back up the front cover it appeared to be coming from behind the front cover.
Have stripped the front of the engine removing PAS pump, dizzy and alternator. Leaving the coolant system intact.
Once we pressurise the system again, the coolant is leaking from the top right corner of the front cover, between the front cover and the engine block.
Haven't had the chance to strip front cover off yet, and struggling to rememer everything that's behind it (engine book packed somewhere as moving house at weekend) so . . ..
Is the water pump leaking through the back of the front cover, is there a water gallery next to it, is there any coolant flow through the front cover ??
My memory fails me since the last time I had one off, so any suggestions welcomed !

I am guessing it is a serp engine, if it is it will be the wrong gasket fitted ie a pre serp gasket, the very corner of the casket is shaped differently and causes this problem.
Rob = star !It is a serpentine engine. INterestingly it has been fine for the 4+yrs he's had it and over 20k miles.
Looking forward to doing this now, as we were quite concerned it was going to be worse.
Edited to add, that you can see gasket protruding from the back of the cover which does not look right, namely not just ovr size, but a random bit . . .
