I have just had the pre cats on my Griff 500 removed, but at the same time had a set of Bosch injectors fitted that I bought from Top Sparks (which he used on his 5.5).

The car has not been remapped (or Emeralded) yet, and won't be while I save some £££.

Question is, do I need to be concerned about the main cat being damaged at all by the extra fuel flow?

The car runs fine otherwise.

Thanks + apologies if this is a daft question (me not very techy!)

Can i ask you why you feel the need to fit bigger injectors scratchchin
and what would you hope to gain from them ?

It is part of a longer term upgrade, eventually going to opt for a V8D large capacity engine.

I understand that the injector upgrade is not needed for anything less than 350hp - had the injectors, thought I'd fit them given that my "old" ones may not be performing the way they should anymore.

I dont really understand this? have you fitted the big injectors and kept the standard factory ecu and airflow meter? if so i would be taking the injectors back out! they will flow way more than standard ones and would be very harmfull to the engine unless it is mapped properly

Not ideal but couldn't you compensate by fitting an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (to reduce the pressure rather than the usual increase).

Thanks for the replies - and point taken thanks V8 racing.

I will have the original injectors refited untill all the upgrade work can be done.

If you did this you might have the mixture correct at just one point in the rpm range (for say an mot) but it might be dangereously lean in others..

How much is a new engine..!

Best thing to do is ask Top sparks what spec the injectors are :

22 or 25 or 30 lbs ?

And maybe the pressure is so low at idle the injectors dribble fuel instead of spraying it... wink

But then I have always prefered high fuel rail pressures over low.

I believe they are the 33lb ones, way too big for a standard chip!!
