Back in Feb '06, seasider posted some ace pics of his 7" LE headlight conversion, but couldn't reveal his source of the pods. Anyone know if these can be got? Presumably originals will be difficult with the Factory being closed? Are there any aftermarket conversions about?
Cheers,
Pete

When you go 7" you get a main beam in the pod, I believe.
So what have people done with the old main beam lights?
Obviously, they could be left as is, or with a HID kit fitted, then wired together with the new mains, or separate.
But they could be replaced with driving, fog or combination units.
So what’s been tried? What other units fitted?

I can vouch for the quality of Sportmotive's SE pods and headlights - exactly the same as the genuine TVR factory SE pods and lights. Ian is a really helpful guy and he was more than willing to give telephone advice to the guy painting my Griffith.

Thanks Guys - I'll give Ian a call tomorrow. Hope he's got some in stock, body is (still) off the car but due for painting very shortly, so I need to get them in pronto.

Cheers,
Pete

I've been in a few Griffiths with the older lights at night and as I wasn't driving I have paid little attention to how poor they are . .

However, I do know that I have 7" headlights, and Dave's light kit, and they are still crap on dip. Main beam is fine, dip is shite.

I would have the 2 in pod conversion if I didn't want to keep it standard, except I drive so much that I think for the sake of safety one day I'll have to do it . .

I'd disagree - it only takes some Vision plus or Powerbulbs/Halfrauds equivalent (i.e. 50% brighter) to bring the dipped beam up to the standard of most other cars (with the exception of I'm-going-to-blind-you-you-bastard-BMW). The thing that knackers the strength of the dipped beam is crap weather and dirty perspex. RainX on the perspex covers helps.

I put Halfords 50% extra light bulbs in my standard 6" and they are a vast improvement over the standard. I'd say about 30%. I also have HID bulbs in the driving/main beam lights and boy do they light up the world when they're on. It's a good combination and less likely to get you pulled by Plod.

I have brighter bulbs as well, and they are still not that good. Perhaps I am spoilt by my new Golf, but the TVR's light with clean lenses are still not sufficiently bright on dip for me.

I have lived with them for 50k miles and 5yrs, so I'm not saying they are unusable, but they are not great.

Second that, when I upgraded to the 50%+ on my 400 it was a vast improvement, when I did it on my 500 it was only an improvement, cleanliness of the pod/lens & condition of the covers makes a big difference to the beam throw.

When I spoke to Ian, he said there was a very slight improvement over the originals, as the light units in the originals was a very tight fit, and this has been fixed on his.

Anyone know if tvr car parts has made the patern perspex lens covers yet?

If it's the performance, rather than the looks your going for, then why not fit HID lights? You can fit these in less than an hour, and cost's £100!You wont get better lights for sureyes
