Is there any reason why Studs should not be used to fix a TVR exhaust Manifold? I am about to replace my gaskets and thought studs would be a better option than the existing Bolts.

Not many have enough clearance to get the manifold on/off if studs are in situ. You might be able to use a few? The inner wings are very close...

I'm not sure that even if you can get the manifolds onto the studs - and I agree with SPEND on that - there would then also be enough clearance between the end of the stud and the manifold to get a nut onto it.
Also, IMHO pushing a bolt in would be easier than trying to get a nut onto a stud - particularly on ports 8, 5 and 7

It’s tricky enough with bolt’s. I can see it being easier with the reduced head bolt sets available.

I would think it very difficult with stud’s and defiantly would not use the type with a short plain section as these provide too much location, you need some flexibility to hook up the Y piece correctly as it springs.

Cheers,

Simon.

Studs would be a better option however when I asked this question a few months ago the accepted wisdom was that there is barely the room to lift the manifolds out without having to withdraw them back over studs as well.

I did wonder whether the Cerbera solution of having slotted bottom holes in the manifold so you could have studs at least one fixing might be worth pursuing?

Not sure, but I wonder if slotted holes on the bottom would enable you to twist the manifold far enough to get it over studs on the top too? Need somebody with a scrap manifold to be first to try. smile
