LT77 gearchange linkage adjustment
Discussion
My Griff suffers from a poor (sloppy) gearchange. Especially from 3d to 4th (difficult to find the gate) and staying in 5th is a problem. I think I misadjusted the gearchange linkage, because I tightened down some bolts that I now discovered are for fixing a bias spring. I found via former PH mails Warks TVR site and downloaded the LT77 manuals. My questions:
1. Is the described bias spring adjustment procedure the same, because the linkage is TVR specific?
2. Does somebody have a good picture of the linkage? I can not figure out how it exactly works from below the car and the photo in Steve's bible is not detailed enough.
3. Are there other things I should change/check about the linkage?
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks Barreti. I think it's OK. It's still in one piece, though I don't know if it can wear out and create too much play in its housing. I read the previous post on this and don't look forward to the circlip job! Because I am pretty sure that I misset the bias spring. Before that it changed a bit better. I would like to explore this (hopefully) easier route first.

I can't imagine much wear on the nylon bush Peter, so I think you're right to put it to the back of your list. It seems you certainly got the gist of the PITA that is the circlip
Sorry I can't be any further help but can you tell me where you got the LT77 manual.
Here's why..
Since I tinkered with mine the reverse 'gate' isn't working and triggers the reversing lights when it feels like it.
There are 2 spring loaded bolts holding a plate in position under the gearlever, the bottom of the gearlever slides onto a groove in that plate and I think it's the setup of this which creates the pressure you feel when trying to get into reverse and how far the plate moves to trigger the reverse lights switch.
I could do with knowing if all that is true, and if it is how I adjust it.
Thanks Peter and good luck with your problem.

Hope this links works. It's in the tech tips part under "Griffith 500 Gearbox Problems".

I just had a look at mine. I still can not figure out how it exactly works with the bias springs. I loosened one of the spring bolts and think it's a bit better now. The springs and plate for reverse are as you described. I hope the adjustment is the same as described in the manuals. I am also considering to change the gearbox oil again. I have 75W85 fully synthetic Valvoline Synpower now but read on PH that the Castrol Transmax is supposed to be good for the LT77.
Good luck with yours, Peter
