right, im looking to get a griff and apart from the obvious such as chassis condition and the likes of, what else are problem areas and faults? also hoping to get a 500 but im wondering if these have reliability issues over the smaller engine models? any advice much appreciated.

as the 'smaller' engine models are all over FIFTEEN years old, just find a car you like and buy on condition.

so no issues between different engines then which is good. been stung on a bad tvr before so dont want to make same mistake again. think i would have a pre check by an expert this time or off a reputable dealer.offord tvr,s always seem to be going for a fair price.

As has already been said, buy on condition, not engine type. They are all very reliable,as long as looked after. You are very wise to get an expert inspection-try Rob Ingleby.
Get a good one and you'll be in heavenyescloud9

Have a look at as many as poss, Chassis is vital so check very carefully. engine is cheap to work on, body and trim not so but are easy an easy fix compared to a body off. Chassis chassis chassis.

Just done a full resto body off and enjoyed it immensely but others may not and would cost about 6k for a garage to do.

Don't be put off and good luck

I just inspected a TVR that had a inspection 4 wks ago and needed welding and other parts so don't trust just any indie or stealer to inspect, the guys on here will point you in the right direction of someone who is up to the job.
