Griff. price guide
Discussion
Is there such a guide available free? What do the dealers use,I ask as many private adverts show a similar, or even a higher price, than similar cars advertised by a dealer. I suspect dealers are out to make £2/3K so I would expect a private sale to take this into account especially as no warranty is available. I think it is going to be a long haul to find the right car, I have already formed an impression that many cars for sale are just advertised to test the market. Having sold my V8S for what I think was a fair price, I'm not looking to pay over the odds for a Griff.
There is no definitive guide. There simply isn't the volume of cars moving to be able to put an up to date guide together. ebay is good indicator of what people will pay - BUT it's what people will pay for a car, often unseen. And why would you sell a good car through ebay? (Yes I know there are legitimate answers like "quick sale" but then you're notgetting the best price...).
PH and TVRCC asking prices are a probably a good indicator of what owners think their cars are worth. Expect them to sell for within 10%. If owners are asking more than dealers, it's because they've either got better cars, or they really know how good the car is. Or they're trying it on...
Seriously, there are too many ropey cars at dealers which sell anyway because "it's from a dealer - it must be alright". Many would say the TVR market is a buyer's market at the moment - that's true, unless you're an owner who'll sell, but only for the right price. Much more likely with a Griffith than a Mondeo, so again, pricing is harder to fathom than for run of the mill motors.
It's the difference between a car being worth what someone'll pay for it (the dealer and 'expert' view) and what the owner will sell it for (more often than not the enthusiastic owner's view).

To be honest I think the mark-up most dealers would look to turn would be about £1,000 or maybe 10% of the cars value depending on how good a deal they got in the first place. Some dealers are obviously a lot more expensive in the first place (I think we all know whoi they are)
The most expensive cars generally sell on above all else...service history and condition. Some prospective owners want only "original cars", as they rolled out of the factory and "no added bling or fibre glass art"! "Original" unadultarated Griffs seem to be increasing in value as the cars' classic recognition continues to develop...
Eng,
Its possibly not the best time of year to buy to get the best deal and luck (being in the right place at the right time) will play its part.
I would keep looking at the classifieds and keep a record of cars that look good. I spent 6 months monitoring the market and bought a week before christmas to bag a bargain.
I would say reasonable early cars can be had for 10k and a good last 100SE would likely be £20k.
Good luck
