Barreti's bug run
Discussion
Eyup,
I've just got back from 2 hours bug collecting in the Griff and still have the adrenaline running through me so thought I'd let you all know.
Up at 7am and after the usual morning faffing about (still forgot the camera and mobile phone though) I set off at 7:55
A50 West to warm the car up and refuel at Derby. Thats the boring stuff though.
Leaving Derby on the road to Mickleover, after a couple of miles I pulled over and asked my trusty navigator to set a course for Alton in Staffs (of Alton Towers fame). Good old Tom Tom came up with a cross country route which was brilliant, a fantastic straight long B road where 60mph felt like twice that because the hedges where high and close(ish), where I could use all the road, see for miles and cut the corners of the little chicanes where the road kinked.
This road brought me out at Yeavley where a dad pointed at the car for his young sons to have a gawp at. With the Griffith still resplendent in its Le Mans livery they must have thought a race had come to town!
From Yeavley up to the Ashbourne road, going away from Ashbourne for about 1 mile then turn right onto the twisties again and on towards Alton.
Approaching Alton I started to catch up traffic, but in the TVR it still staggers me how short a distance you need to get by someone and how people back off to create a gap for you when you duck in.
I turned around at Alton and headed to Uttoxeter. This was a truly glorious drive. Nice fast open roads and car upon car upon car all going the opposite direction, heading for Alton Towers no doubt.
From Uttoxeter I took the scenic route into Hilton and then back onto the A50 to head for home. The fun still wasn't over though because with the windows down and the car running fabulously I was able to just kick back and bask in the sunshine of an English summers morning.
Bloody marvelous. I forgive the Griff every single knuckle scrape I've had in the last year working on it, and for the feeling I have right now its been worth every penny and minute in the garage.
For days like this is why I own a TVR Griffith
