Misfiring Griff gonna miss the Growl ?
Discussion
Was aiming to come to the Growl, but now the Griff is playing silly b*ggers so could use some help on diagnostics. Its a early Griff 500 with the speedo that goes the wrong way etc.
We were out on a run yesterday, bit slow due to Saturday traffic but the cooling was on top of the heat and the engine remianed cool though maybe under bonnet temps were high ? Anyhow, the Griff starts misifiring, or more accurately sort of fluffy running. If you floor the gas it picks up cleanly and accelerates like it should. On a part cruising throttle it then goes all fluffy again. It does this for say 2 mins and then it all clears back to normal. About 10 mins later it does the same thing. Never feels like its gonna die but not nice either.
So we get to our friends to the bbq and leave late in the cool night air for a run down the M40. 20 mins into the journey at a steady 80 it does the same thing, ok if you floor it but well fluffy and jerky on a part throttle. Got home, gave it a smack for being naughty and went to bed.
The only thing we did notice is that when we went to start it from our friends, with the ignition on but not started there was just a feint wiff of petrol which only the passenger could smell. Also, when doing its fluffy thing it seems like the the car was more fumey but this might just be looking for stuff - dunno on that.
any ideas on where to start looking. MIL light isn't on but not actually sure its connected on this car. Its had extensive work in the past when the engine was changed but its all standard, the TPS and the lamdas both look new.
any thoughts appreciated - we want to make the growl of course.

Usually stuff like this is ignition related, but could be any one of a no. of things as well-coil,lead,module,extender etc, all could be breaking down.I have some spares(coil, module, extenders, cap, rotor)if you want to try them?Ought to add that the module is the coil mounted type btw.

OK so I've put a new coil on, just need time to take it for a decent run. Dunno why I suspect the coil, just think it will have got damn hot and its mounted on the engine which never does much to extend the life.
OK so whats an extender ?
My ign amp appears to be on the dizzy - where can I get a replacement if needs be ?
thanks

I picked up a couple at the breakers yard last week, standard lucas 3 pin type. If you need one to try quick send me an email. One thing I have found out about these units to look at, the earth connection is through the mounting screws, if the screws become loose or corroded the units are known to cause random ignition problems.
