Pipercross panel air filter question....

Which way up does it go? The metal hole perforated side up or down in relation to the GRP airbox thingy?

I would have though that the black 'sponge' side goes down as this would be technically the outside of the filter(?) ie. the air comes through the filter through the sponge facing down and then through the perforated metal bit into the air box? - or is this the wrong way around?

As you Say, oiled sponge should be 1st point of contact with the air to catch dust/debris ect.

I think you'll find that the perforated metal is just there to support the foam and stop it collapsing in towards the engine. Hence foam layer goes on the outside, metal on the inside.
