Blokes, hope you don't mind me posting on here but you seem more 'mod-friendly' than err' others. Anyhow, have had two Griffs' in the past.
At Chim[lid]fest last week I tried out [and bought] the 'Torque flow' modification which is a replacement afm, on my 450 chim'. Have to say it made sense both in theory and practice. Seems to have cured the top end overfuelling problem. Pulls more cleanly from 3k rpm upwards. [especially on the gas as I can now run 100% nitrous] I will be trying it out on a dyno asap to see results but for now it DOES feel better. FFG had a before run I know and Mrs FFG was impressed by the road test she bought it. FFG did you manage to get an after figure?

Pulled 279.x with the standard AFM. Tried with the new induction but ran weak and nobody had a guage so we could turn the fuel pressure regulator up - did try and get Ian down but he got stuck in traffic (suspect V Fest related). The rolling road guy reckons it would be good for 300ish. Shame we didn't get a good run as it was an ideal marketing opportunity missed. Will have to get back to the same dyno so at least comparing like with like.
Andrea said it was smoother but taking it easy now until we get more fuel in.

It looked to me like it was a bigger bore AFM. It should produce good gains.

FFG: You should have said something! I had a fuel pressure gauge & AFR meter with me.

my simple undersatnding (and I mean simple as I am a simple person when it comes to cars)....

a total new air flow meter with enlarged plenum intake and butterfly and ecu mapped to cope with additional air giving more bhp and moving "stuff" up the rev range.. reported to give smoother running as well due to more of that air stuff.

who would think that the free stuff (air)would make a car run better.... shame it costs to get the free stuff into the car though hehe

Looks like a full bore AFM with it's own electronics, also suitable chip fitted to ecu and a larger plenum inlet [of which I didn't have]. Have to say pulls a lot cleaner [of gas] from 3k revs up, and has definatley cured my overfuelling problem with nitrous [on gas] Seems to make sense and apparently Derecks [ab-shocks] 4.0 makes 20hp extra throughout.
If anyone wants a contact number I can pass on if you mail me. Will talk to the chap who does 'em about putting his number up here, can't see why not as it seems to work, but like to check first.

Just make sure cost of bigger AFM & Remap doesn't exceed the cost of getting an aftermarket ECU and binning the AFM.

Shut up about free stuff. If the government remember its free do you know what will happen?

Your AFM will have to have a data logger on it, thats what.

Pay tax on the air used we will.

Typical, this comes out a few weeks after I buy a new original AFM. Under bonnet heat caused my old one to misread. How much is this new AFM?

Uncle Fester - I think if your AFM in knacked then this is a no brainer.

I'm going to get more fuel and get it back on teh same rolling road to ensure before and after are credible - will post when done but difficult as Ian is in Cheshire, the rolling road north London and someone to adjust the fuel.
Andrea has siad it is much smoother and much more responsive, ie really fast pickup. Not tried too hard until we get the fuelling right.

It's still in late stages of development. The Griff is one of 3 or 4 cars with it on currently. The mod seems to be a good one, just need to find out what else needs tweeking, ie fuelling, ECU chip change etc before it is mass marketed. I think the Griff will be the first to have back to back rolling road comparison though and results should be around in a couple of weeks. Before has been doen so need to get back on the same rollers.
Mac had a specific problem which it cured and he is more than happy.

Not is knackered, was knackered.

My problem is last month I bought new standard AFM.

This month I find out I could have bought this instead and got more power.

I found that it always gave a signal that was within the expeceted range, so no ECU codes.

But, when under bonnet temperature got too high, the signal from the AFM to the ECU was wrong. It was causing over fueling. Enough to foul plugs and cause misfiring.

Just a follow up........

I brought one of Eanns modded AFM`s a couple of weeks ago after a few conversations with Macdeb and have just got around to fitting it. On its own it made the car run like a bag of s4it stalling, stuttering, idle rev`s all over the place but ive just had the car set up by Colin at Dulfords whos increased the fuel pressure and tuned the engine to suit. What a difference i can honestly say its made my little green chim evil the mid range pick up is so much stronger and cleaner than before. My car was running 291 at the fly before this mod and theres now a noticable increase in power and torque. It was a shame i couldnt get a rolling road run as the rollers broke just before my run. Gonna try again in a couple of weeks.biggrin

Def worth a punt folks
