I know most of us think this would be some form of crime, but I would like our Griff to be a bit quieter. It scored 113.4dB on the Growl noise test, and while it's a good noise that we both enjoy, it starts to get annoying after a couple of hours.

Last year it scored 105.6dB, and this was acceptable, so the question is how best to return to this figure without a performance hit? I won't rule out the possibility of an ECU controlled bypass valve on the silencer so that the car shuts itself up on cruise, or when I need to achieve a particular noise limit. I would prefer any solution to not change the exterior of the car in any way - so no trackday silencers.

The changes over the past year have been "limited" to an engine rebuild with wilder cam and some setup work. The exhaust has not been changed at all since the previous year.

I regularly have to repack the 520SE's exhaust because the internal wadding often burns away and this reduces the silencer's efficiency. Cut open silencer, repack with silencer wadding and weld back together. Alternatively get a new exhaust box.

We heard you the first time, that 520 exhaust must be loud if you think you have to repeat yourself, pardon? laugh

I got some silencers form TVR Services for my 4.5 BV to get it through a little test i needed to have done ;-)... worked a treat, and didnt seem to affect performance.

Earplugs after a couple of hours?
seems a shame to dampen a noise you enjoy otherwise...

Hi, I've got similar noise issues on my car. Would a stainless set from ACT make it any better or does it only improve the sound of these brutal monsters?
My Griff has the pre-cats removed + the exhaust box internals removed..... Bought it that way. I'm using a rhd monster in Holland where "noisy" cars are not always appreciated.....not to talk about the 85db test for trackdays on Assen which are problematic.

113.4 here too.
No complaints from me though - even on the trip to Le Mans.

Perhaps you should stop washing your ears

Could you add some cherry bombs to the existing set up?Some short ones immediately after the silencer might help?
