Hi all,i was wondering just how feasible it is to run an induction pipe through the o/side inner wing, going through the access cover for the carbon cannister at the front?Once inside here,is there enough of an opening to outside air(below the pod or wherever) to supply a decent size round filter?

I have been thinking along similar lines for a little while too. But I don't think it's going to be easy to get the decent pipe diameters we would want in there.

considered this mike,

need to paint the interior to to prevent fibre dust,

scoop out side to direct more air in,

still don't gain too much as you not losing any length of the hot pipe section.

from behind the wheels is better (footwell area), but need a narrow section to go over the wheel arch in the wing,

certainly possible, not on mine cause I have other stuff in there atm wink

this has really got me thinking now!scratchchin.what i was initially thinking was for one pipe into inner wing, and one to the center of a larger modded panel filter airbox in the front nose.I dont want to make new holes in the inner wing,so this is why i was thinking about using the carbon filter access. My other concern is that it might look a bit of a 'dogs breakfast', with two pipes going to different places it wont look very symetrical and neatfrownscratchchin

Mike I have done somethings on the Chim in those areas and Im quite surprised at how much pressure is in the CC area compared to the main grill. I have partitioned off the middle section for cooling (with alloy shrouds), and just the 'Ned' holes for ventilation ~ but even after adding filters + blocking much of the old indicators with driving lights I have not cut down on the forced air thru the wings? I really expected this was down to air falling out of the rad opening but I am beginning to suspect its the other way round?

Hmmmm....I was thinking the front inner wing was the place to go,a la chimaera, but i'm not sure how much different it will be re the air pressure,as the chim is obviously a bit different to a griff.Am i right in thinking i need a negative pressure area?Ive never got down underneath the front of the wing to have a look see at what it's like up under thereconfused.

On the Griffiths, early ones anyway, the heater blower sits below the offside pod and blows air through the inner/outer wing space up over the wheelarch.

I think it may be a nice pressure zone to force air in, but the more pipe work & bends you have the greater the pressure drop! I do wonder if long ducts and cold air are any better than a direct air filter ala V8S.

The facinating times i spent with Joo on the dyno with the induction on my RV8 griff have convinced me that only a cold air feed will do,to be honest. As bendy as you like, there was no substitute for an outside air feed only, when compared to a straight length inside the engine bay.
In many ways the awkwardness of what we'll have to provide for the AJP will be a bit of a shame as well,as i would have liked in many ways to replicate the original panel on top of the throttle bodies, just for the original look, and it would have been one hell of a lot easier for Joo to make up,but it simply shouldn't perform anywhere near as well,so were going for the difficult option first!hehe

Ducting cool air (airbox) to a short induction + filter does not preclude that idea. Remember the dyno conditions are static (Joos fans only simulate air flow), so comparisons are quite hard. As soon as you seal a pipe with an air filter on the end it saps engine power by the engine having to suck through it. An short induction to air filter in an unsealed but fed mainly by cool ducted air works differently I think.

Mike this picture may help with routing

I think you would have room to bring a hose out of there. Not sure how much room there is around cc though.

I realise the dyno is a different set of conditions Dave, but you also have to get a consistent map from somewhere i guess, thats why i dont fancy a ram air type set up
.Just when i thought i had decided on a final solution, your last sentence has got me thinking again!hehe.Cheers Davethumbup

BB-I have just seen your mail this morning, will have a go tonight, cheers matesmile

Not surprised it got you thinking Mike ~ my brain was a bit garbled last night boxedin. Sorry about the grammar, it was hard to string 2 words in 'Mr Wobbly' mode hehe

I know that you and Joo prefer an alphaN based load axis, but have you thought of applying barometric compensation in the ECU? (I am presuming yours has an option for this...) This should deal with things like the ram air effect.
