As some of you know, the Griff heater matrix packed up on the Friday morning before we set off for the Growl. I finally got around to pulling the heater box out of the car today and I discover a completely Heath-Robinson heater. (Even Nic refered to it as a C grade GCSE D&T project wink )

Maybe I'm not being fair. It's been in the car a while so has deteriorated, and all the fluffy stuff has dropped off the flap so that while it moves it doesn't direct airflow any more. And the innards look to be very difficult to get at, since they were plastic welded into the box with no thought of service.

Thankfully, I was able to extract the heater matrix and braze it back together so it's now watertight.

But now I've seen the heater, I realise it can never work properly, so is there a better option than me sitting down with a pint of Guinness and redesigning the whole thing? Preferably something I can just buy, fit and forget that takes up the minimum of space and reuses the things on the car that actually work - such as the fan. (Although maybe it's best to not even use the fan since if it were removed, a more functional recirc valve could be made...)

Any thoughts? I currently have a leaning towards one of the Vintage Air products, but really don't want to have to struggle with importing it.

Did you manage to get it out without taking the dash top off ? I'm struggling to see a route for it to take frown

Lower the column to its lowest position and just undo the six cap heads to take the wheel off.
Better off with it out of the way.
